Terrific Tots StorytimeTuesdays at 10am September 7 – Ears and Hands“Do your ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro?” Silly songs and fun rhymes about our ears and hands make up this week’s storytime. Think of all the things you can do with your hands- clap, pick things up, TICKLE, and so much more. We’ll have lots of fun trying to guess Whose Ears Are These in the book by Peg Hall. Then we’ll make a hat and give ourselves silly ears. September 14 – Nose and FeetWhat would we do if we didn’t have our nose and our feet? What smells good and what doesn’t smell so good? How about your feet? Now that’s silly! What can you do with those feet you have? Walk, run, jump! We’ll hear a funny story about a queen who had a problem with her feet in The Queen’s Feet by Sarah Ellis. Make a funny puppet out of your foot. September 21 – ApplesYummy, crunchy, juicy, delicious apples! We all love apples. Sing some apple picking songs and listen as a little worm almost comes to a crunchy end in an apple. Find the secret hiding inside an apple and enjoy some appley good treats. September 28 – Johnny AppleseedWe all love Johnny Appleseed, that brave young man who traveled all over planting apple trees and making friends with old and young alike. We’ll hear some favorite stories about Johnny, some true, some not so true and then we’ll make a “Johnny” puppet. |
Cool Kids ClubFor Those 6-12 Years Old September 1 – Loch Ness MonsterWe will explore the urban legend of the Loch Ness Monster. We will gather facts, listen to short stories, watch a video about this strange creature and create our own “Nessie” from clay. September 8 – MermaidsFact or fiction? Come and discover mermaid history, tales and games. Create your own mermaid to take home while enjoying mermaid snacks!
September 15 – Big FootUrban legend or myth? You will have lots of fun deciding what’s true or not about this big fellow. Have you heard the story of Bigfoot Cinderrrrella? Make a sasquatch mask and remove all doubts for your friends
that Big Foot does exist. September 22 – Dragons, Dragons, DragonsDid dragons actually exist? If so, where did they live and play? Come step back in time to Dragon Days. Hot, hot, hot! September 29 – The Legend of Sleepy HollowEnjoy a classic and ride with the “headless horseman” through Sleepy Hollow. Finish with a campfire treat (hmm- now how do you eat that with no head?) |

Beginning in September, the Morganton Public Library will begin a book discussion for children in fourth and fifth grades. Selections were made on an age appropriate level. Books that will be discussed were chosen based on their award winning status, quality or overall content.
The book discussions can be signed up for on a monthly basis. They will take place on the fourth Wednesday of every month (excluding December) at 3:30pm and will last 45 minutes to an hour. Book discussions will include a snack, of course, after we use so much brain power discussing! Discussions will be led by a library staff member that will guide the discussions and ensure that everyone is able to participate as they choose and topics are relevant.
Parents, please preview our book selections to decide if you wish for your child to participate. I will have book reviews on hand prior to the discussions and available upon signup to aid you in your decision making. We will not be providing each child with a book, so please feel free to reserve and checkout the copies available to you through the Morganton Public Library and our branches in Valdese and Hildebran.
